Part of the art of Signwriting is Heraldic Crests and Monograms, usually featuring gold and sometimes other leaf techniques, black outlining or shading and rich colours. These can be three dimensional. Crests require restoration work on occasion and have to be stripped back and reworked, or they may have certain parts re-finished to be clearer, yet still retain aged patina.
Crests in establishments often change over the years, so boards in a row may differ, including simpler and more complex variations. Often these are worked onto period wood panelling and once finished look as if they have been in place for many years because of their timeless elegance.
